Typing in markdown works great, but Lex should be able to recognize markdown when I copy-paste it in from somewhere else and format it appropriately.

Funniest part of this is that I keep a backup in Bear just in case (after that crazy Google Docs loss that happened a couple months ago) and Bear recognizes the MD when I use the "copy MD" in the share option but Lex doesn't.

Michael S: yeah it makes sense, it's a feature we should definitely support and will, just heads down on a
big
new feature at the mo so all the other nice to have's are deprioritised until that's out!M

Fred Rivett Makes sense! Looking forward to seeing the big reveal

Merged in a post:
Pasting markdown into Lex doesn't trigger formatting. (e.g. pasting "## Awesome Subtitle" produces regularly paragraph text, whereas typing those characters manually creates H2 formatted text). Being able to have copy/past work for markdown would help tremendously with formatting for articles that came from another editor (e.g. writing when offline, drafts that underway before getting access to Lex, etc). Also, Lex seems great and I'm looking forward to using it more - thank you for making it and sharing it!

Sorry for the super delayed response here. This is definitely planned and we've even got a ticket with details on it, currently we're heads down on a big new feature but hope to have more headspace for polishing details like this later this year.
Will update back here when we've got something to share!

But what is the workaround to actually get a file into Lex? There does not seem to be an import or "open file" functionality. I'm lost.

chad j: for now just copy and paste! if you are able to render the markdown as html somewhere and copy that, the formatting may transfer more reliably
definitely will build import at some point though!

I second this request from Evan. I am using ChatGPT to generate fully formed blog ideas and would like to copy the blog post into Lex and for the Markdown from ChatGPT to be maintained in Lex, where I will then review, rewrite and refine the post before publishing.
