He's so amazing! Gosh, when will they let us pay in real instead of dollars?!?! I was so happy they released this model so quickly, but then I got a little sad thinking, "Wow, maybe I'll stop using Lex Page to switch to this one," because I got really attached to that site. But once again, it's locked behind Premium! We always get the short end of the stick. I really hope they release an update soon... I want to use this model here, and I've been waiting since last year for the team to give us a chance to access Premium without such a high fee. 😔

The Lex Pro pricing in India might be high too.
Lex and Basecamp make me look and sound professional and intelligent. $20 or $12 is totally worth it.
It is a valuable part of my tech stack that I'll be willing to forego dining out a couple of times (and cut down other subscriptions) to pay for Lex Pro.

Prabu R What is the minimum wage in India? We have different realities, and it's not really fair to compare yours to others (it sounds offensive). It's money out of route. Think that Americans are paying a fair price that the company itself thinks is okay, so why do we, from other countries, have to pay more for the services? It would be fair if you and I could pay the price set in our own currency just like others. If you have to give up dining out a few times for that, I’m sorry to say, but we're in the same sinking boat.

Hey Lisa. Ultimately as a business we need to make money. Our Lex Pro plan is priced lower than Claude's pro offering and Open AI, and you get unlimited access to both. Our free plan offers half a dozen models, when we could restrict to just a couple. Deepseek is a new model that isn't cheap, hence it's for pro users. We lose money on all free users, and on quite a few pro users too.
Right now our priority is on shipping big features so we can get to profitability and stick around in the long term.
Is the issue that you are unable pay in dollars, or that you want Pro access but for less than $12/mo?

Fred RivettIf I convert the annual subscription price to my local currency, it becomes very expensive. In dollars, it might seem like a fair price, but what would be, for example, $12 for you is 70.39 BRL for me. Considering this, the total subscription cost is close to a minimum wage in my country, making it hard to pay in full
But this isn’t a complaint—I know we’ve discussed this before. I just wanted to say that I’m excited about this new model! I read that it has much better capabilities than any previous one, and I’d like to know the main differences between it and GPT-4
Oh, and to answer your question: I don’t have money in dollars.

Fred Rivett I understand your focus on reaching profitability, and I would suggest experimenting with purchasing power parity (PPP) pricing in select markets.
It might seem counterintuitive to lower prices, but PPP-based pricing could actually expand your revenue. It could increase conversions of currently priced-out users who want to pay but find $12/mo prohibitively expensive in their local currency.
It could also reduce churn in international markets – users who stretch their budget to subscribe are more likely to cancel during tight months. A more sustainable local price point could lead to longer retention. Not to mention a possible increase in brand loyalty and word-of-mouth growth in emerging markets. Companies like Spotify have seen significant growth after implementing local pricing - people appreciate fair pricing and become strong advocates.
If your priority is to ship big features, you can consider PPP-based pricing a feature that you could test with a controlled rollout in 2-3 key markets like Brazil and India.

Gocha, thanks Lisa. Yeah hopefully we can address this at some point, at the mo our small team don't have the capacity to address this but I'd like to at some point, so apologies for the frustration in the meantime!

Yeah agree João, I've always liked PPP since I saw it first a while back.
It's easier for stuff with near zero cost per user (e.g. selling a digital book) but trickier when granting access to costly models (the providers we use don't provide PPP so if we discount a user in one market to charge 30% of the cost we still pay 100% on our end).
That said personally (not speaking for Lex but just on my view) I'd like to see us add it at some point, or provide some way for folks in weaker economies a way to go beyond the daily limits.
Right now our team is small and we're heads down focused on some core features, but hopefully something we can consider at some point.
